A 66-year-old Maui man died today after the vehicle he was driving struck a car in west Maui.

Robert K. Adams suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene, a little less than a mile west of the Lahaina Pali, police said.

Adams was driving a vehicle traveling west on Honoapiilani Highway that crossed the center line and collided with a four-door sedan traveling east and then hit a kiawe tree at 11:11 a.m. Thursday.

Two men visiting from La Jolla, Calif., who were in the sedan suffered injuries that were not life-threatening and were taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center.

Debris from the accident struck a compact car traveling behind the sedan.

The fatality is the sixth in Maui County, compared to 11 for the same time last year.
