A 41-year-old man was being held on $40,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court Monday on multiple charges after his arrest during a routine vehicle check, police said.

John Hickman was charged Friday with auto theft and drug offenses.

Police said officers making a routine check on a vehicle early Thursday morning, in a parking lot where criminal activity has occurred in the Keeaumoku area, and learned the vehicle was stolen.

A woman in the vehicle identified a man standing near the vehicle as the driver.

The suspect attempted to flee the scene but was caught and found to be in possession of a replica gun and drugs, police said.

Hickman was arrested in South King Street at 1:20 a.m.
