Flood advisory posted for Hawaii County

A nearly stationary area of heavy rain has prompted a flood advisory for Hawaii island through 5:15 p.m. today, according to officials at the National Weather Service.

Radar showed heavy rain 34 miles southwest of Hilo as of 2:12 p.m.

Officials warned residents to avoid streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
