Dengue cases jump by 1 to 181 on Hawaii isle

The state Department of Health today reported an additional case of dengue fever on Hawaii Island, bringing the total to 181 confirmed cases.

According to the department, only seven of those who have contracted the mosquito-born illness remain infectious.

The disease is typically spread when a mosquito bites a person carrying the dengue fever and then bites another person.

Of the confirmed cases, 163 are Hawaii residents and 18 have been visitors.
