Coast Guard searches for owner of kayak found off Hawaii Kai

An unmanned, two-person kayak found off Hawaii Kai Saturday. The kayak had no markings, paddles or equipment onboard.
The Coast Guard is seeking the public’s help in identifying the owner of an unmanned, adrift kayak found off Hawaii Kai Saturday.
The two-person kayak is yellow with no markings, paddles or equipment on board.
A vessel Sea Fox found the kayak about 1 mile offshore of China Walls at 8:49 a.m.
The Coast Guard issued a marine information broadcast to mariners and launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point to search the area.
There are no reported missing persons or overdue mariners in the area.
Anyone with information on kayak is asked to contact the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu Command Center at 808-842-2600.
“The Coast Guard encourages owners who lose their water craft to report it to the Coast Guard so that we can rule out distress, eliminate any unnecessary searches, and potentially reunite owners with their property” said Lt. Omar Astrero, a search and rescue coordinator at the Sector Honolulu command center.
The Coast Guard also offers free “If Found” decals through the Operation Paddle Smart program at local harbormasters, through the Coast Guard Auxiliary, from Honolulu Sail and Power Squadron offices and some marine retail and supply stores.

I hope those in the Kayak are found safe and sound.
People put some ID on your kayaks.
Lets hope that the Kayak just got washed away and there wasn’t anybody on there. People should take the advice of the Coast Guard and start marking their craft so at least they know who it belongs to in this kind of situation.
