Hy’s Steak House in Waikiki has been named among the 100 best steakhouses in America by OpenTable.com.

Serving customers for some four decades, Hy’s is the only entry from Hawaii. While Ruth’s Chris Steak House made the list, the chain was cited for its locations in Boston, Mass. and Midtown in New York City.

Hy’s is known for its classic style of service and table-side preparation of dishes including salads and flaming desserts, as well as entertainment by Audy Kimura.

Some 28 states are represented on the OpenTable list, with multiple states having multiple restaurants. California, Illinois and Texas each have 17 listed restaurants, while New York has 14 and Nevada has 12.

OpenTable’s unranked list was compiled from more than 5 million reviews submitted by verified users of the website between Oct. 1, 2015 and Sept. 30, 2016.

“With its long history and timeless traditions, the steakhouse occupies a special place in our nation’s dining culture,” says Caroline Potter, OpenTable chief dining officer, in a statement. “These winning restaurants are honoring those comforting — and delicious — traditions, while providing top-notch hospitality that diners want to return for again and again.”

      It ain’t pizza hut hon.

      • bobbob says:

allie needs to work her part time student job for a week to afford a meal. whereas, she can eat all the pizza crusts that falls under the table for free at her job. Waikiki pizza joint > hy’s

I’m going to take a wild guess that you do not know that Allie is a HE and not a SHE. Dude… he is a guy pretending to be female. We also know that HE has been claiming to be a UH student since 2008. I think there is a good chance he is a paid flamer used to drive up impressions on the SA website.

        • PoiDoggy says:

@bobbob, that’s a terribly unkind comment from you.

The mention of “spotty service” caught my eye. In my experience, if you get great service, you don’t mind the price of yr meal so much. I haven’t been to this place yet, I do still want to go.

        • bobbob says:

Apologies, HE needs to work his part time student job.

        • PTF says:

Allie was known as Alice on the Honolulu Topix forum.

        • justmyview371 says:

She gets someone else to pay!

      • allie says:

Umm..I still work 2 nights a week but graduated from the UH. From my FB video and postings you know I work for KS. Geesh…such anger over nothing.

        • PoiDoggy says:

Exactly. Why do you guys have to be so mean? Other people in your lives you could take the time to be nice to…but instead you felt it was more important to spend your time insulting someone over the internet.

      • Sunny says:

Sizzler’s used to be good back in the 70’s.

    • Kalaheo1 says:

Not my experience. My favorite restaurant in all of Oahu. EVERYTHING consistently superb and top notch.

    • allie says:

Hard to take a place where the waiters are better dressed than the patrons are as my date, an attorney in town said.

      • rytsuru says:

As a paid Advertiser click baiter, you should really leave your comments in the political and editorial sections where you sound far more convincing. Leave the restaurant criticisms for Nadine.

  2. Sandybeach says:

Used to go there. I know one of the waiters. Nice guy. Like to buy good steak and do it on the grill at home.

  3. Uch808 says:

The waiter splashed some sauce on my pants while preparing some fancy dessert at the table. The guy didn’t even offer to pay to get them cleaned. NEVER again going to this place.

  4. ryan02 says:

Did this place evolve from the “Hy’s Steakhouse” chain that started in Canada? Or is it just a coincidence that it has the same name and the “h” in the logo is identical?

  5. puna01 says:

I’ve gone to Hy’s several times over the years.
Top 100 in the country: Great for them.
Thinking of the whole country though….whoa, guess I shouldn’t expect much when I travel.

  6. den says:

    woooohoooo!

    Caviar…………$170.00
    Bone In Ribeye….$75

  7. justmyview371 says:

I don’t think Hy’s s the best steakhouse on Oahu.

  8. Waikele says:

If you’re dining at Hy’s, you’re not concerned with price, but rather the “experience and ambience”. Been there on occasions, it’s very nice but excellent steaks can also be had at other places, i.e. Morton’s and Ruth Chris, less pretentiousness.

  9. hcsr says:

Back in the day Hy’s was the best on the Island but today there are several great steakhouses. If it’s $75 for bone-in ribeye that’s not bad. Have been to several places where the best steaks now top $100 per person. Roy’s and Ruth Chris are recent places where the top steaks were well over $100. Just couldn’t get myself to do it but I certainly wanted to try it just to see…

  10. wrightj says:

It’s OK not to eat steak; really, it won’t hurt at all.

  11. juscasting says:

I cook better steak on my weber at home over Kiawe coals, but I’m a rack of lamb diner when I do go to Hy’s.

  12. noheawilli says:

Congrats and well earned. We love Hy’s and have enjoyed dining there over the past 20 years.

  13. Carang_da_buggahz says:

I’m dating myself here but I recall decades ago the sign outside read “Hy’s of Canada”. Is it still Canadian-owned?

  14. aomohoa says:

I am actually very rarely impressed by the restaurants that win these fancy awards. I find the little restaurants along the road side are the best. Not fancy looking but good quality food. Anyone ever been to Serg’s in Waimanalo? Now that is good food.
