Fire scorches Waipio duplex

Honolulu firefighters doused a fire at a three-story duplex home in Waipio this afternoon.

A Honolulu Fire Department spokesman said that heavy smoke was coming from a second-story window of the Lumipolu Street home when nine fire companies with 31 firefighters arrived just before 1 p.m.

The fire was brought under control nine minutes later. No one was inside the home at the time of the fire, according to the fire department.

The fire was extinguished by 1:26 p.m. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
