Painter who died in fall from Big Isle roof identified

A 45-year-old Hilo man has died after he fell through the roof of a warehouse in Panaewa.

He has been identified as Peter Tosie. An autopsy is expected to be performed Friday to determine the exact cause of death.

Shortly after 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a report of a man, identified as Tosie, who fell about 40 feet at a warehouse on Kealakai Street. Tosie, a painting company employee, was on the roof of the structure he was painting when he fell through a fiberglass section and landed on the concrete floor.

He was transported in critical condition to Hilo Medical Center where he died.

Police are investigating the fatal fall. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 935-3311 or CrimeStoppers at 961-8300.
