Waimanalo family of 13 flees early-morning house fire

A family of 13 escaped from a two-alarm fire early this morning involving a single-story home along Kalanianaole Highway in Waimanalo.

The first of 35 Honolulu firefighters representing nine fire companies arrived at 2:36 a.m. and found smoke and flames coming from the home, fire Capt. David Jenkins said.

Firefighters had the blaze under control at 3:04 a.m. and fully extinguished by 4:51 a.m.

An investigation continues and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined, Jenkins said. There was no immediate estimate of the damage costs.
