JAMM AQUINO / 2016

This miniature canoe was part of a collection of handmade items crafted by inmates at the Hawaii Correctional Industries offices in Iwilei. On Friday, one-of-a-kind products made by Hawaii inmates will be featured at 801 Dillingham Blvd. as part of its annual holiday sale.

Hawaii Correctional Industries is holding its annual Holiday Showcase Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday at its showroom at 801 Dillingham Blvd.

The showroom is on the second floor above Max of Manila Restaurant and will feature one-of-a-kind products made by Hawaii inmates, including handcrafted wooden bowls and keychains, ornaments, clocks, quilted items, mugs, purses made from past adult correctional officer uniforms. There are hundreds of items on sale, including wood furnishings cut and crafted at the Kulani Correctional Facility on the Big Island using trees that fall across Stainback Highway.

Fresh produce from the inmate farm at Waiawa Correctional Facility will also be on sale.

In 2016, the Hawaii Legislature signed a bill allowing inmate-made products and services to be sold on the open market and to the public.
