Firefighters investigate Pahoa house fire

Hawaii island firefighters extinguished a residential fire in Hawaiian Beaches Wednesday night.

Firefighters responded to the fire at an unoccupied, single-story home on Honu Street at about 10:25 p.m. When they arrived, crews observed smoke billowing from the windows and eaves.

Firefighters brought the fire under control at 10:45 p.m. and extinguished at 11 p.m. The fire department said the blaze was contained to one bedroom.

Damage was estimated at $40,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
