2 sailors on leave arrested in Waikiki

Two sailors on leave from a San Diego-based amphibious assault ship got into trouble in Waikiki early Wednesday morning.

A 33-year-old sailor was arrested just after 12:30 a.m. for allegedly trying to break into a car on Kalakaua Avenue near the Moana Hotel, according to police records.

An hour later, officers arrested another 24-year-old sailor on suspicion of third-degree assault near the Waikiki Aquarium.

Both sailors are assigned the USS Boxer, which arrived at Pearl Harbor Tuesday for brief layover.

The Boxer Amphibious Ready Group and the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit are completing a nine-month western Pacific deployment and stopped in Honolulu before returning to San Diego.

The sailors were turned over to Navy authorities.
