Police ask for help to find suspect caught on camera breaking into car

Honolulu police released an image taken from home security camera video of a suspect in a car break-in on May 27 in Waipahu.
Honolulu police are asking for the public’s help in catching a man on a moped who is seen on security camera video breaking the window of a car parked on a Waipahu Street and taking items from the car.
Police posted home security camera video and images of the suspect Wednesday on the Honolulu Police YouTube channel and the honolulupd.org website from the theft in May.
The video shows the suspect, dressed in a red basketball jersey, plaid short pants and slippers riding past the victim’s car, which is parked in front of a driveway on Eleu Street, at about 3:42 p.m. on May 27.
The suspect parks his moped, looks in the car and then walks around to the passenger side of the car, breaks a window and removes what appears to be clothing before driving away on the moped.
Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call Honolulu police at 529-3111 or CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or *CRIME on a cellular phone.

It happened on May 27 and they ask us now?
I was going to ask the same question … every notice every time a story like this comes out a few months have passed … no wonder HPD can’t catch these PUNKS

How did he break the glass? No tool and it seemed so easy and instant.
I think it’s one of those “punch” type gizmos that you use in an emergency if you’re in the car and can’t get out. Like a pen. Just push it against the glass and there might be a spring mechanism that breaks it. Now, crooks are using it to break IN the cars. Hope they catch this guy. Good thing get video.
I’ve seen this tool in action when occupants need to get out of cars sinking in water. I carry one to help others who locked children in cars or can’t get out of burning cars.

Go to HPD website and look up reported crimes and violations, and even run a google search on crimes reported by area in Honolulu. You will find distinct clusters and patterns that I do not believe is ignored by the HPD, but demonstrates that there is little that can be done short of vigilantism. I don’t say that tongue in cheek. That is just how bad it is.

Moreover, this is data that has been vetted. The hotels are actively telling guests that there is crime everywhere on Oahu, and they should be vigilant at?all times. Who would want to return?

Agree, a little late on the reporting SA… By now, break in technology has certainly evolved so that perps are all but invisible.

I believe that the police department should have asked for assistance from the public as soon as possible rather than waiting this long before releasing the video. There would be a higher likelihood that the perpetrators would be caught as witnesses sometimes forget details and lose interest. Also more than likely these suspects probably have committed other crimes as well…

Why is the robber’s face blurred out in the video? The surrounding images of the vehicles are sharp but the haze over the guys face and body follows and covers the guy throughout the entire video. So HPD not only waits a long time before asking the public’s help, they also blur out the criminal’s face as well? This is not the first time as almost every other previous video released by HPD, the face of the criminal is always blurred out. Something really fishy going on with police and whether they are truly trying to get the public’s help in catching criminals caught on video.
Yet they want public’s help to ID the guy.
People have to be more careful & help themselves. Don’t leave anything that looks worth stealing visible in a parked car. In today’s works, it’s an invitation for a break-in. It happened to us in San Francisco on Geary Street, when my son left a nearly empty school back pack on the front seat of our rental car while we were having dinner. The car was parked under a street lamp, on a main thoroughfare. No make difference! Too many unscrupulous people everywhere.

Crooks will steal anything you leave in plain sight it seems. I remember somebody breaking into my car just to steal some taco bell coupons.
Property and theft crimes are not the strong point for HPD. This guy lives nearby more than likely. Send him back to the Philippines so their new president can handle him.
Somebody please clip this clown and run him and his moped into a telephone pole if you see him in Waipahu.
