Visitor Industry Charity Walk chairman and Waikiki Parc Hotel general manager, Julie Arigo, and KCCN FM 100's Shannon Scott, cheer on over 7,000 Oahu walkers with the McKinley High School cheerleaders at the Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki checkpoint.

The annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk raised a record $1.67 million for Hawaii charities, officials announced.

A total of 14,736 walkers on Oahu, Maui, Hawaii island, Kauai, Lanai and Molokai participated.

The fundraising walk features food booths and entertainment.

The Oahu walk was held Saturday and raised $452,000. It started at Ala Moana Beach Park’s McCoy Pavilion and continued for six-miles through Waikiki, along the Ala Wai Canal and back to McCoy Pavilion.

The other islands held their charity walks earlier this month. Maui hotel workers raised the most money, $701,716.

The Visitor Industry Charity Walk is one of the largest fundraisers in the state, officials said. Since its inception in 1978, the Charity Walk has raised over $26.3 million for Hawaii charities.
