A 20-year-old man was critically injured Friday night when his black Toyota pickup crashed in Paia.

Maui police said the truck was heading north on Baldwin Avenue near Holomua Road at 9:31 p.m., when it traveled off the roadway, went up an embankment, spun clockwise and back onto the roadway facing northeast.

The driver was thrown from the vehicle and was taken in critical condition with life-threatening injuries to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he remains hospitalized, police said.

Police said he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

I have no sympathy for people that are too lazy and careless to even bother with wearing a seat belt.
