A fire displaced three people and caused moderate damage to the kitchen of a Kailua apartment Tuesday night.

Damage was estimated at $65,000, said Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig.

Firefighters brought the 7:55 p.m. fire under control at 8:12 p.m.

Capt. Terry Seelig said two roommates lived in the second-story apartment at 547 Wailepo St. Unit 4.

The apartment below sustained water damage due to the firefighting efforts. A woman living in that apartment was also displaced.

The cause remains under investigation.
