Tropical Storm Narda has formed in the Eastern Pacific, far from land and heading west toward the Central Pacific, the National Hurricane Center in Miami, said today.

The storm, which was about 1,030 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California at 5 a.m. Hawaii time today, had maximum sustained winds of 65 mph, and was moving west-northwest at 15 mph.

The forecast calls for the storm to intensify into a hurricane by Tuesday but to weaken to a tropical depression by the weekend.

The storm poses no threat to land, hurricane officials said.
