Maui parents charged after injuring infant in custody argument

Maui police have charged the parents of an infant girl who was injured during an argument over custody on Saturday.

According to police, Kayzia-Ashley Washington, 21, brought her daughter to a clinic with a suspicious injury.

Police were notified and a subsequent investigation found that Washington and boyfriend Dane Nakama, 20, the father of the child, had been involved in an argument over custody of the child. Washington was holding the child when the argument escalated into a physical confrontation, resulting in the child sustaining an injury.

Both Nakama and Washington were arrested and charged with second-degree assault, abuse of a family or household member and first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor. Nakama's aggregate bail was set at $12,000. Washington's aggregate bail was $3,000.
