Police: Shopper nabs suspect who took purse from stroller

An Ala Moana Center shopper helped catch  a would-be thief, who allegedly took a purse from a baby stroller and fled, police said.

Vernon I. Konohia, 44, is charged with fourth-degree theft after he allegedly took a purse from a stroller at 11:55 a.m. Sunday, according to police reports. Officers arrested Konohia after a witness followed and detained him, police said.

His bail is set at $1,000.
