Youth correctional facility escapee surrenders to police

A 17-year-old escapee from the Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility turned himself in to police Tuesday.

Police said the boy was on furlough and failed to return to the Kailua prison at the scheduled time on May 4.

The case was classified as a second-degree escape.

Police said the boy turned himself in at 10 a.m. Tuesday, and the complaint was withdrawn.
