Allegiant flight returns to Las Vegas after engine problem

By Associated Press

LAST UPDATED: 07:30 a.m. HST, Jul 07, 2014

LAS VEGAS >> Allegiant Airlines officials say a plane having engine problems turned around and returned to Las Vegas.

Allegiant spokesman Justin Ralenkotter says Flight 225 to Bellingham, Washington, departed McCarran International Airport at 7:10 p.m. Sunday before crew members noticed an oil temperature problem in one of the plane's two engines.

The MD-80 aircraft arrived back in Las Vegas at 7:48 p.m.

Ralenkotter says passengers haven't reported problems during the short ride, and the plane is designed to continue operating on a single engine.

The 140 passengers on board will receive a full refund as well as a $100 voucher for future travel and a hotel room if they live further than 50 miles away.

Another flight to Bellingham was scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Monday.

Look at the age of their aircraft. They are all hand-me-downs! But the company makes lots of money!

Allegiant sounds like a bad choice. You might want to pay more to make sure you get where you need to safety.

AKA MORIMOTO: Unless you're really strapped for cash, I wouldn't fly Allegiant. Sure they're probably the cheapest, but it's another case of "you get what you pay for".

I don't understand the SA's reporting of things like this. Practically every airline has a daily flight cancellation for a mechanical. Seems like Allegiant always makes the news.
