Two strong earthquakes struck off the coast of the Solomon Islands on Friday afternoon but did not trigger any tsunami warnings for Hawaii.
At 11:45 a.m. Friday, a preliminary magnitude 6.8 quake hit the Solomon Islands’ Santa Cruz region, 127 miles east-southeast of Kirakira, Solomon Islands, at a depth of 4.35 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey website.
A second preliminary magnitude 6.8 quake hit at 2 p.m. Hawaii time 99 miles east-southeast of Kirakira, Solomon Islands, at depth of 6.21 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey website reported.
No injuries were immediately reported.
