SCHOOLS

» Closed: All Hawaii public schools and charter schools

» Many private schools have not yet started their academic year. Independent schools that announced their campuses would be shut Friday include 'Iolani School, Saint Louis School, Kame­ha­meha Schools, Saint Francis School, Hawaii Baptist Academy, Punahou School, Damien Memorial School, Maryknoll School, Our Lady of Good Counsel School, The St. Andrew's Schools and Star of the Sea School. Mid-Pacific Institute canceled an open house.

» The YMCA of Hono­lulu canceled its Friday A+, youth, teen and preschool programs.

School shelters

County Civil Defense agencies have activated the following public school campuses as emergency shelters:

» Hawaii County: Laupahoehoe Public Charter School, Kohala High & Elementary, Kealakehe High, Konawaena High, Hilo High, Wai­akea High, Keaau High, Pahoa High & Intermediate, Hono­kaa High & Intermediate, Kau High and Wai­ko­loa Elementary

» Maui County: Baldwin High, Loke­lani Intermediate, Kekau­like High, Hana High & Elementary, Molo­kai High, Kilo­hana Elementary, and Lanai High & Elementary

» Oahu: Campbell High, Kai­muki High, Kaiser High, McKinley High, Castle High, Mili­lani High, Pearl City High, Wai­alua High & Intermediate, and Nana­kuli High & Middle.

» Kauai: Shelters will be determined by Kauai Civil Defense.

COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES

» All University of Hawaii campuses, including community colleges, are closed Friday.

UH-Hilo and Hawaii Community College closed Thursday in anticipation of the storm system.

UH-Maui College and its education centers in Hana, Lahaina and on Molo­kai and Lanai closed Thursday afternoon. Weekend activities are also suspended.

Several private universities are also closed Friday.

» Hawaii Pacific University's campuses are closed Friday and Saturday.

» Brigham Young University-Hawaii's Cannon Activities Center is a designated American Red Cross hurricane evacuation shelter.

» Chaminade University closed its campuses Thursday afternoon, and they will remain closed through Saturday. The closures include the university's Kai­muki campus, satellite campuses and all military base locations. Only employees deemed essential — with responsibilities related to campus emergency operations — were asked to report to work.

FEDERAL

» All U.S. post offices on Maui, Molo­kai and Lanai are closed. Postal Service management will make additional decisions regarding adjustments to postal operations on other islands as needed.

» The Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Hono­lulu are closed to the public, but the complex will remain open for federal employees.

» The Summit and Kipa­hulu districts of Hale­akala National Park are closed Friday.

STATE OF HAWAII

» State Attorney General David Louie said the primary election, slated for Saturday, will go forward as planned. Early voting wrapped up Thursday.

» The Department of Land and Natural Resources has closed all state parks on Hawaii island, Maui, Molo­kai, Oahu and Kauai. Also closed: forest reserves, wildlife sanctuaries, natural area reserves, forest hiking trails, game management areas (public hunting) and Na Ala Hele trails. State forest camping areas are closed, and no camping and hunting permits were issued.

» Closed: State offices in Maui County (Maui, Molo­kai and Lanai) and on Hawaii island

» Closed: State courthouses and Judiciary offices on Hawaii island and Maui County. Those closures include the children's justice centers, offices of the public guardian and driver education offices on Hawaii island and Maui County. Family Court hearings scheduled at the Molo­kai Courthouse on Friday will be rescheduled for late August.

HAWAII COUNTY

» Closed: Hawaii County offices as well as county parks and beach parks, solid-waste transfer stations and the Hilo and Puu­ana­hulu landfills

» Hele-On Bus service in Hawaii County was suspended Friday. Service might resume Saturday, depending on conditions.

» Senior nutrition programs and recreation program activities are canceled. Van service provided by Coordinated Services for the Elderly has been suspended.

MAUI COUNTY

» Closed: Maui County offices, county swimming pools, Wai­ehu Golf Course, all camping sites, community centers, beach parks and all other county parks

» Bus service on Maui is suspended.

OAHU

» Closed: Hono­lulu city and county offices. (Only first responders, emergency support workers and primary disaster response workers should report to work as directed by their supervisors.) All nonessential city services including satellite city halls and driver licensing centers are closed.

» There was no trash or bulky-waste pickup Friday. Do not leave ref­use, bulky items or carts at the curb. Also, landfill, transfer stations, convenience ref­use centers and HPOWER was closed. Resumption of ref­use services this weekend will depend on an assessment of weather conditions.

» Residents using the three-cart system (gray, green and blue) and all manual collection routes normally serviced on Friday are asked to hold their trash and recyclables until the next scheduled collection date or take them to the convenience centers when they reopen.

» TheBus and TheHandi-Van services are canceled. Officials will resume regular service after the storm passes when the roads are declared safe for travel.

» TheBus will provide one-way Commuter Express Service to downtown Hono­­lulu and Wai­kiki on Friday morning. All of the express buses will terminate in the Wai­kiki area, including those that normally do not serve Wai­kiki. The express-route buses will run between 4:30 and 7:30 a.m., depending on the community. Specific routes and times are posted at thebus.org.

» All City and County of Hono­lulu parks are closed until further notice. All camping permits and all permitted events at city parks and gyms were canceled and refunded. All events at city parks including the People's Open Market will be closed through Sunday.
