Two of Broadway’s biggest hits, “Beauty and the Beast” and “CATS,” will be playing in Honolulu this year, producers were to announce today.

“Beauty and the Beast,” a Disney production that has become an international sensation, will open Sept. 21 at Blaisdell Concert Hall. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “CATS” is scheduled to open Dec. 28, according to a news release from local promoter Broadway in Hawaii.

The national touring productions of the musicals are being brought to Blaisdell Concert Hall by NewSpace Entertainment, an independent presenter working with Broadway in Hawaii. Producers hope to match the success of Disney’s “The Lion King,” which ran for an extended engagement in 2007.

Ticket prices will range from $37-$67 for “Beauty and the Beast,” with discounts of up to 40 percent for opening night. Tickets for “CATS,” winner of seven Tony Awards including best musical, will be priced at $35-$70, with similar discounts on opening night. Children’s tickets will be discounted to 50 percent on opening nights and on other specified dates. Customers who buy full-price tickets to both shows will get a 10 percent discount. Tickets will be available June 12 at Ticketmaster.com, the Blaisdell ticket office, Walmart, Sports Gear at Windward Mall, and by calling 800-745-3000.
