‘Glee’ cast to perform Kamakawiwo’ole hit
Fans of the hit Fox TV show “Glee” will get a dose of Hawaii’s Israel Kamakawiwo‘ole tonight when the cast sings IZ’s version of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World,” according to local record label Mountain Apple Company, which licenses rights to the arrangement. The episode airs tonight at 8 p.m. on Fox (KHON).
Kamaka Ukulele’s Fred Kamaka Jr. added that “It is our understanding that the main character (Mr. Schuster) in ‘Glee’ will … (play) a Kamaka tenor ukulele. We were informed that the same character will perform using (a) Kamaka ukulele during next season as well.”
The “Glee” cast performed the beloved singer’s version during a recent national tour. It will be included in tonight’s iTunes release of “Glee: The Music, Journey to the Regionals.”
