Woman chasing thieves is beaten

A woman who ran after purse-snatchers wound up being kidnapped and beaten by the thieves, police said.

Police arrested three women and two girls Tuesday in connection with the case at a Honolulu shopping center last week.

Police said the victims, a 27-year-old woman and a 25-year-old woman, were in the food court when two teenage girls, probably between 16 and 18 years old, grabbed their purses off chairs and ran to a getaway vehicle.

The older victim ran after them and got into the vehicle. Another teenager then jumped in after her, sandwiching the victim in the seat as the vehicle drove off. The two teenage girls beat the woman and dropped her off some distance away, police said.

A 20-year-old woman with no local address, an 18-year-old Waianae woman and a 19-year-old Hawaii Kai woman were arrested in connection with the June 2 incident. Police also arrested two girls, ages 16 and 17, and were looking for another female suspect.

Arrest is made in Pearl City threat

A 20-year-old Mililani man who allegedly threatened a group of men at gunpoint in a Pearl City park last week is behind bars, but a second gunman is still at large, police said.

Police said the suspect and another man drove up to a group of eight men, ages 18-20, who were hanging out at an unidentified Pearl City park at 9:30 p.m. last Thursday. The two suspects pulled out guns.

The 20-year-old man threatened one of the men with a gun while his accomplice pointed his gun at the other men, police said.

The 20-year-old suspect then used his gun to smash the windshield of one man’s car with four people inside, police said. The other suspect hit the side-view mirror of another car with his gun, police said.

Police identified the 20-year-old man through a photo lineup and arrested him Tuesday afternoon at the Pearl City Police Station on 14 charges, including terroristic threatening, firearms and drug offenses.
