Richard Dahl, the former president and chief operating officer of both Dole Food Co. and Bank of Hawaii Corp., has been selected as chief executive officer of the James Campbell Co., a private, Hawaii-based real estate company with assets valued at more than $2.6 billion.

The appointment will be effective Aug. 11.

Dahl will replace Chairman and CEO Steve MacMillan, who announced his retirement as CEO in May 2009 after more than 28 years with the Estate of James Campbell and now the James Campbell Co.

Dahl was with Bank of Hawaii for more than 20 years, including serving as president and COO from 1994 to 2002, before leaving to join Dole. He currently is the non-executive chairman of International Rectifier Corp. of El Segundo, Calif., and is a director of DineEquity Inc. of Glendale, Calif., and IDACORP Inc and Idaho Power Co. of Boise, Idaho.
