Police and Fire

Police seek information on 2 fires

Police are asking for the public’s help in finding four male arson suspects involved in a June 10 fire at Waipahu Middle School.

The suspects set fire to a portable classroom and were caught on surveillance video in the area before the fire started, police said.

The fire began at about 11:50 p.m. When police arrived the classroom was engulfed in flames.

Police also are looking for witnesses and information on the Honowai Elementary School fire June 13, which destroyed a classroom.

Anyone with information on either fire is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or *CRIME on a cell phone.

Woman hit in crosswalk still critical

A 64-year-old Waipahu woman remained in critical condition Wednesday night after she was hit by a UPS truck while crossing a Waipahu street.

The 32-year-old Ewa Beach man driving the truck had the green light while heading west on Hiapo Street. He had begun a left turn onto Paiwa Street when he struck the woman crossing Paiwa.

The woman was in a marked crosswalk heading south when she was struck by the truck at 6:06 p.m., police said.

She received head and facial injuries and was taken in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center.
