Police probe 5-month-old’s death

Police are awaiting autopsy results in an investigation of the death of a 5-month-old boy early yesterday.

The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the baby as Lawrence L. Dennis of Makiki.

The baby was found unconscious about 2:55 a.m. in his crib in Makiki by his care provider. Police said 911 was called immediately, and an ambulance transported the boy to a hospital, where efforts to revive him failed.

 

Pedestrian killed in accident ID’d

The Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the pedestrian killed in an accident Saturday in the Ala Moana area as Edward Hoopiiaina, 35, of Waimanalo.

Hoopiiaina was crossing Kapiolani Boulevard at Kamakee Street in a crosswalk at about 2:45 a.m. when a Nissan sedan struck him and knocked him to the ground. A Mercedes then ran over him, dragging him to the middle of the road.

Hoopiiaina was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition, police said. He died of head injuries, the Medical Examiner’s Office said.

Police said the 20-year-old Nissan driver of Honolulu returned on foot to the scene. The 25-year-old Mercedes driver fled the scene, but was arrested later.

 

Suspect sought in robbery of surfer

Police are looking for a suspect who robbed a man returning to his car after surfing at Diamond Head, police said.

The 35-year-old man was heading back to his car about 8:15 p.m. Monday when the suspect demanded the victim’s property and hit the surfer on the back of the head before fleeing.
