SOUTH BEND, Ind. >> Hawaii’s remaining representatives in the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship were eliminated from the tournament today at The Warren Course at Notre Dame.
Kimberly Kim and Stephanie Kono won their second-round matches but lost in the third round. Kauai’s Kelli Oride lost to Cydney Clanton 5 and 3 in the second round.
Kim, last year’s runner up, defeated Gyeol Park of Korea 4 and 3 in the second round then lost to Victoria Sungmin Park 2 and 1 in the third round.
Kono outlasted Candace Schepperle in 23 holes to advance this morning. She then fell to Brianna Do 3 and 2.
Kono’s match with Schepperle tied the mark for the second longest in the tournament’s history. Kono was 1 up after 16 holes and Schepperle tied it with a birdie on No. 17. They matched pars over the next five holes before Kono won with a par on the par-5 fifth hole.
