Ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro is paying tribute to Nisei veterans with this week’s release of his "Go For Broke" single.

The song, from his upcoming album "Peace Love Ukulele" to be released Sept. 28, is available to download free of charge at www.JakeShimabukuro.com.

Shimabukuro will be handing out free CDs of the single during autograph sessions today at noon at Pearl Harbor Navy Exchange (military ID required to enter the store), and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the 3rd Annual Independence Day event at Maunalua Bay.

"Go For Broke" was the motto of the Japanese-Americans who served in World War II as members of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, the 100th Infantry Battalion, the 1399th Engineering Construction Battalion and the Military Intelligence Service.

"It’s my hope that ‘Go For Broke’ will remind everyone of all ages about how the AJA soldiers served our country so that we, especially Americans of Asian ancestry, could have more opportunities and better lives here in America," Shimabukuro said in a statement.
