Flyover will show off F-22 Raptor fighter jets
Two F-22 Raptor fighter jets from Langley Air Force Base, Va., will conduct a flyover off Oahu tonight. A Raptor stopped over at then-Hickam Air Force Base last year en route to Japan.
Two Air Force F-22 Raptor fighter jets will conduct a flyover off the Waianae Coast this evening, officials said.
The flyover "will showcase some of the capabilities of the U.S. Air Force’s most advanced jet fighter," the Hawaii Air National Guard said.
The 15-minute demonstration from 6:45 to 7 p.m. will be over water, but residents will be able to view the aircraft from coastal areas from Honokai Hale to Waianae, the Air Guard said.
The flight demonstration, with several passes, will be made by two F-22s from Langley Air Force Base in Virginia that are passing through Hawaii, officials said.
The Air Force is basing 20 of the stealth fighters at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. A dedication ceremony for the first two aircraft will be held at 9 a.m. today. The ceremony is not open to the public.
The first two aircraft are maintenance training aircraft. The remaining 18 are expected to start flying in as of January and continue to arrive throughout 2011.
