Suspect charged in bleach-spraying

A 38-year-old man who allegedly sprayed an eviction notice server with bleach appeared in court yesterday after being charged with first-degree terroristic threatening.

Michael Keene appeared in Honolulu District Court and was being held on $20,000 bail.

Police said Keene sprayed a 63-year-old man with liquid that was later found to be bleach after the man tried to get him to move out. He was arrested at 424 Ward Ave. on Tuesday and charged Wednesday.

 

Man, 46, arrested in assault on girl

Police arrested a 46-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a girl in Kaneohe between Feb. 1, 2008, and July 6. The girl is now 4.

Police said the girl disclosed the assaults Wednesday. The suspect was located and arrested, then released pending investigation.

 

Victim spots assailant, calls police

A man who said he was robbed a week ago spotted his alleged assailant Wednesday at a Waikiki shop, called police and had him arrested.

The victim, 35, said he took the suspect to his apartment on July 15. The suspect wielded a knife and ordered him to take off his clothes and lie face down on his bed, the man said. The suspect then went through the victim’s belongings for four hours before leaving with some items.

 

Animal feed business burglarized

A burglar or burglars broke into a Campbell Industrial Park business Tuesday, pried open a safe and stole money. Police were called to an alarm at Land O’ Lakes Purina Feed LLC on Olai Street at 4:49 a.m. They discovered a forced entry into the business and the open safe.

There are no suspects.

2 females arrested in vehicle theft

Big Island police arrested a 19-year-old Hilo woman and a girl, 15, and are looking for other suspects in the robbery of a 60-year-old Mountain View man in Hawaiian Beaches.

Police said the man gave a ride to several young adults and juveniles from Ainaloa to Hawaiian Beaches at about 11 p.m. Tuesday. After they arrived, police said "multiple suspects" attacked the man and stole his vehicle.

Fire rescue personnel took the victim to Hilo Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

The 19-year-old woman was being held at the Hilo police cellblock, and the 15-year-old was released to her parents.

Police ask that anyone with information call Detective Paul Fukuda at 961-2381 or the nonemergency line at 935-3311.

 

Lava flow pools at cliff

Lava flowing out of Kilauea Volcano remained stalled about 130 feet from a home that was evacuated on Sunday and was pooling at the base of an ocean cliff yesterday, according to officials at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

Rather than spreading east, the lava was moving north and primarily south yesterday, said Janet Babb, spokeswoman for the U.S. Geological Survey. Some of the lava was pooling at the base of a 10- to 20-foot tall oceanside cliff that separated Highway 137 from the ocean.

 

Brush fire shuts road

An 80-acre brush fire yesterday forced police to close Kohala Mountain Road in Kohala.

The road was closed at Waiaka, Kawaihae and Kohala Mountain roads, Big Island police said.

Firefighters said the fire was reported at 11:38 a.m. and was not under control as of last night.
