Fire destroyed a community center in Poamoho Camp last night, resulting in $250,000 in damage.

The fire was reported at 8:05 p.m.

About 35 firefighters responded, and when the first company arrived on scene, the fire was fully involved, Capt. Terry Seelig said. The fire was extinguished at 10:05 p.m.

The corrugated metal roof of the old, wooden building collapsed onto the burning building, requiring the roofing material to be removed and the building to be pulled apart in order to extinguish the fires.
