6 arrested in brawl at bar in Aiea

Six people were arrested following a large brawl at an Aiea bar early yesterday morning, two of them for assaulting police officers, police said.

Officers were called to Chez Sports Bar and Lounge at Westridge Center at about 2:35 a.m. after a party turned into a large brawl, police said. Two officers, ages 49 and 30, were assaulted while trying to break up the crowd. They were taken to a hospital, treated and released.

A man, 31, and a woman, 26, both of Waipahu addresses, were arrested for assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

Also arrested were three men, ages 27 and 26, also of Waipahu, for resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Another woman, 26, of Waipahu, was arrested for disorderly conduct.

None of the suspects have been charged.

Car hits pedestrian near Pearlridge

A man was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle while crossing Kamehameha Highway at Pali Momi Street near Pearlridge Shopping Center at about 7 yesterday morning.

The victim, 62, was taken in serious condition to a trauma center, police said.

Police are looking for a white sport utility vehicle that left the scene after striking the man, who was in a marked crosswalk and had a green light heading mauka, police said.

It was the second hit-and-run in the Aiea-Pearl City area in three days. Police also are looking for the driver of a stolen car that struck a pedestrian Saturday morning on Kaahumanu Street. The suspect ran off.

That pedestrian was taken in serious condition to an area hospital and improved later.

Suspect arrested in rock throwing

Honolulu police arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with an alleged rock-throwing incident in Kakaako last month. Police said a 67-year-old man was struck with a rock in the chest on July 29 at about 11 p.m. in Kakaako.

On Sunday the victim saw the suspect and called police, who arrested the 27-year-old Kuhio Park Terrace resident near Mother Waldron playground at 3:50 p.m., police said. He was charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor.

Maui blaze extinguished after flare-up

A nagging brush fire believed to have been extinguished Saturday flared up yesterday, shutting down traffic in portions of the Wailuku Heights subdivision on Maui.

Police closed South Alu Road between West Main and Palani streets, and fire crews assisted with water drops.

No damage to structures was reported, Maui County spokeswoman Mahina Martin said yesterday afternoon. The 1-acre fire was reported extinguished at 3 p.m., and South Alu Road was reopened.

Meanwhile, the brush fire that started Saturday afternoon in a macadamia nut field off Kahekili Highway in the Wailuku area was declared extinguished at 5 p.m. yesterday, the county said. The fire burned 30 acres.

Judge drops cases against Kauai man

LIHUE, Kauai » Kauai Circuit Judge Kathleen Watanabe has dismissed two criminal cases against a man because they involved duplicate charges.

The two cases had kept Leo Vincent Chandler held on bail since at least January. The charges included kidnapping, first-degree terroristic threatening and third-degree theft.

Watanabe said last week that she did not know why prosecutors failed to dismiss the initial charges earlier. She called a prosecutors’ motion to consolidate the cases "egregious."

Defense attorney Rose Flores wanted both cases dismissed with prejudice, meaning prosecutors could not bring the charges against Chandler again. But Watanabe dismissed them without prejudice, meaning prosecutors may bring the charges at a later date.
