Man arrested in Chinatown stabbing

A 46-year-old Kalihi man was arrested yesterday morning after another man was stabbed in the head with a pocket knife in Chinatown, police said.

Police said the suspect was arguing with the 36-year-old victim before he was stabbed at Kekaulike Mall and North Hotel Street about 1:15 a.m.

The older man was booked on suspicion of second-degree assault.

There was no information on the condition of the victim.

 

Elderly man hurt in diving accident

A man who appears to be in his 70s was in critical condition yesterday after a diving accident.

The man apparently suffered from decompression sickness after surfacing rapidly in 30 feet of water, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the Honolulu Emergency Services Department.

Cheplic said rescuers were called to Kewalo Basin, where the man was brought in on a boat about 2:30 p.m. Paramedics treated the man before taking him in critical condition to a hyperbaric chamber.

 

Woman struck after fight at school

A 15-year-old boy was arrested after he allegedly punched a school employee after a fight Tuesday at Campbell High School in Ewa Beach.

Police said two school employees separated the boy and another student from fighting at about 2:15 p.m. While being escorted away, the boy broke free and punched one of the employees, a 24-year-old woman, several times on her torso, police said.

Police booked the boy on suspicion of second-degree assault.

 

Man suspected in abuse, kidnapping

Police arrested a 22-year-old man who allegedly kidnapped, threatened and abused his former girlfriend, police said.

On July 15, the man, who had no local address, threatened the woman while carrying a weapon, then took her to another location and threatened her again, police said.

On Aug. 2, the man broke into the woman’s home and held her against her will before hurting her, police said.

Police arrested the man Tuesday at Ala Moana Center, booking him on suspicion of first-degree burglary, two counts of kidnapping, three counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, abuse and contempt of court.

Drug bust nets pot and heroin

Big Island police arrested a husband and wife yesterday for allegedly possessing hundreds of marijuana plants and black tar heroin.

Officers served a search warrant at the Mission Road home in Naalehu about 10:15 a.m., police said.

They recovered 555 marijuana plants ranging from 1 to 10 feet tall, 6.7 grams of black tar heroin, 15.2 grams of dried marijuana, a pipe with drug residue and drug paraphernalia.

Police arrested the couple, a 50-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman. Both are being held.

 

Fugitive sent back to state

A Pahoa man who allegedly escaped from the Keaau police station in June has been found in Oregon and returned to Hawaii, Big Island police said.

Rico Nasario, 19, was found in Beaverton, Ore., and brought back to Hawaii on Monday, police said. He was charged with second-degree escape, criminal contempt of court and violating terms of parole.
