Crash closed Punchbowl Street on-ramp to freeway

A medical emergency may have contributed to the cause of a crash that shut down the west-bound Punchbowl Street on-ramp to the H-1 Freeway at about 9: 45 this morning.

A woman in her 90s was taken in critical condition to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced dead, said Bryan Cheplic, a spokesman for the city Department of Emergency Services. She was apparently a passenger in the car and may have suffered a medical condition just before the collision, Cheplic said.

Police re-opened the on-ramp at about 10:30 a.m., a dispatcher said.
