The U.S. Postal Service will issue a stamp featuring some of Hawaii’s rare plants and animals this week.

The “Nature of America: Hawaiian Rain Forest” stamp pane and stamped postal cards will be unveiled and dedicated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

This 2010 Nature of America collectable stamp pane is the 12th and final pane in an educational series focusing on major plant and animal communities in the United States, according to Postal Service officials.

The event Wednesday will include U.S. Sen. Dan Inouye, Lt. Gov. Duke Aiona, U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono, and Big Island Mayor Billy Kenoi.

The stamps will be sold at Post Offices, online at www.usps.com/shop, or by calling (800) 782-6724.
