Kahanaoi must serve at least 30 years behind bars for slaying of Kailua attorney
A Circuit Court judge this morning sentenced Daniel Kahanaoi to life in prison with the opportunity for parole plus 20 years for the April 28, 2009, murder of Kailua lawyer Craig Kimsel.
Circuit Judge Glenn Kim called the killing of Kimsel in his own home an execution and described Kahanaoi’s actions as “atrocious.”
Kahanaoi, 46, snuck onto Kimsel’s fortified property, shot Kimsel in the neck as he was calling 911, then shot him in the back after Kimsel was lying face down on the floor.
Kim also ordered Kahanaoi to spend at least 30 years behind bars before he is eligible for parole.
