Local promoters hope to make the “Doo-Wop Spectacular,” scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at the Neal Blaisdell Concert Hall, an annual event, but they’ve run into snags with this first concert.

Advance ticket sales haven’t been as strong as hoped, so promoters moved the show from Blaisdell Arena, where it was originally scheduled, and additional discounts are being offered on remaining seats.

The show headlines Joey Dee and his Starliters — an act that was in the right place at the right time when Dee recorded “Peppermint Twist” nearly 50 years ago. The song made Dee a star before he was old enough to graduate from college. It also features a full lineup of bands with a doo-wop lineage, including the Dovells (Jerry Gross and Mark Stevens), Joey Dee and the Starliters, the Orlons and “Hawaii¹s Legends of Doo-Wop,” the Love Notes.

Honolulu’s Pete Hernandez and his Love Notes had a band that was the first of its kind in Hawaii. Today, Hernandez is also known as hip-hop pop singer Bruno Mars’ father.

Tickets, priced from $22.50 to $129, at available at the Blaisdell box office; Ticketmaster outlets; by calling 800-745-3000; or at www.ticketmaster.com.
