Help sought in catching bank robber

Police are asking for the public’s help to find a man who robbed a Bank of Hawaii in Kunia yesterday and may have robbed a bank in Kalihi in May.

The man, who is in his 40s, entered the bank at 94-661 Kupuohi St. at 9:57 a.m. yesterday, wearing a black baseball cap and a gray curly wig.

He approached a teller, displayed a handgun, demanded money and then fled in an unknown direction, police said.

The man is a possible suspect in the American Savings Bank robbery at 1851 N. King St. on May 26, according to CrimeStoppers. The man entered the bank about 9:50 a.m., displayed a handgun and demanded money before running away.

He stands 5 feet 4 to 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs between 180 and 200 pounds and has a mustache. In yesterday’s robbery, he wore a wig, a dark-colored shirt, blue denim pants, black shoes with white soles, a baseball cap with the letters "OLD," sunglasses, and on the left wrist, a large faced watch with a black band.

Truck accident victim identified

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a 19-month-old girl who was killed by a reversing truck as Tayzah Ann Kekumu of Waianae.

She died of head injuries from the crash, the Medical Examiner’s Office said.

Police said a 29-year-old Waianae man hit the girl while backing a Ford F-150 pickup truck out of a driveway in the 6700 block of Mamau Place about 3 p.m. Paramedics took the girl to the hospital in critical condition, where she died about 35 minutes later.

Arson ruled in Waialua wildfire

A Honolulu fire investigator has determined a 100-acre wildfire that destroyed at least one unoccupied agricultural building and damaged some crops near Thompson’s Corner in Waialua was intentionally set.

Six fire companies and four tankers spent yesterday mopping up the remains and received help from a city parks crew to cut down smoldering trees in the area, spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said.
