Can it really be any wonder that election turnouts struggle to top 40 percent of registered voters when primaries are held on college football Saturdays?

Make no mistake about it, education, taxes, same-sex marriage are all important issues to put before the voters.

But just as newspapers have sports sections, so, too, perhaps, should ballots.

The sports world has its own compelling issues and much debate on how they should be addressed. Imagine the turnout if some of the major sports topics of the day could be laid before the electorate.

Like some of these, for example:
