Aiona would push more four-day work weeks to ease commuter traffic
Lt. Gov. James “Duke” Aiona, the Republican candidate for governor, said today that he would expand the four-day, 40-hour work week for state workers to help reduce traffic congestion if he is elected governor.
The Lingle administration had a pilot project on a four-day work week at some state departments. Aiona’s advisers said any expansion would likely be done in collaboration with the state’s public-sector labor unions.
Aiona also said he would continue infrastructure improvements to airports, harbors and highways started under the administration.
Aiona said he would also continue to push for medical-malpractice insurance reform if elected. He favors a $250,000 cap on noneconomic damages in medical-malpractice lawsuits, a proposal that has been consistently rejected by the state Legislature.
Aiona said he would also promote a preventative approach to healthcare, including the importance of diet, exercise and regular medical checkups.
