Medical Examiner identifies bicyclist killed in Kalihi traffic accident
The Honolulu Medical Examiner identified the bicyclist who died following a traffic accident in Kalihi Wednesday night as 49-year-old Rickey Albano.
Albano, who was homeless, died at 12:48 a.m. yesterday at The Queen’s Medical Center.
Police said Albano was riding his bicycle at 7:42 p.m. near Dillingham Boulevard about 210 feet east of Middle Street when he was hit by a 2004 multipurpose vehicle driven by a 62-year-old Kalihi woman. The woman was headed east from the H-1 Freeway Airport Viaduct’s Dillingham Boulevard off-ramp when the vehicle struck Albano, who was riding a silver 2008 Giant 21-speed bicycle.
The Medical Examiner said Albano died of “multiple internal injuries due to motor vehicle collision.”
The driver and her passenger, a 62-year-old Kalihi man, were not injured.
Albano was not wearing a helmet, police said.
