No charges filed in abuse case involving officer
Honolulu prosecutors will not prosecute a police lieutenant accused of misdemeanor abuse of a family or household member.
Prosecutors did not have enough evidence to support the allegation against Jason K. Kawabata, 42, a 19-year veteran of the Honolulu Police Department. Kawabata’s wife, a police sergeant, made the complaint.
He turned himself in Sept. 17 at the main station and was released a half-hour later on $1,000 bail.
Prosecutors conferred with police Sept. 21 and took no action on the case, said Jim Fulton, spokesman for the Prosecutor’s Office.
