The 17-month-old boy who died when a relative’s sport utility vehicle backed over him in Makaha yesterday was identified by the city Medical Examiner’s Office as Tyrell Niko.

He was struck as the Toyota Highlander was reversing out of the carport on Kapue Street at about 7:45 a.m., police said.

Police believe the driver, 49, is an aunt who also lives at the house.

The death was the third on Oahu since December involving a toddler who had been run over by a reversing vehicle in a residential driveway.
