Show time for Bieber has isle fans buzzing
The excitement bubbled from young fans in line for pop sensation Justin Bieber’s concert at Blaisdell Arena last night, surprising even a heavy-metal fan.
"Heavy-metal concerts aren’t this crazy," said Scott Castanares, whose 13-year-old daughter and 8-year-old granddaughter were attending the concert.
Hundreds waited in a line that snaked around the arena’s foyer as a Power 104.3 FM booth pumped hip-hop music into the crowd.
It was the first of two sold-out shows by Bieber at the arena as part of his "My World" tour.
Denah Nguyen and her two friends each brought their daughters as birthday gifts for them.

Nguyen didn’t tell her 12-year-old daughter Tatum that she had tickets until yesterday morning before school.

When Tatum’s reaction was subdued, Denah thought she was in shock.
"I knew she wanted to come," she said.
Nguyen’s friend Mai Lien Nacnac said her daughter Micalynn offered to give up birthday gifts for three years if she got concert tickets. Micalynn would have worn two Bieber T-shirts to the concert, but her mother told her she needed only one.
"I’m excited," Micalynn said.
Also with Nguyen, Mele Enoka’s twin daughters, Mylah and Moani, celebrated their seventh birthday Wednesday. Mylah opened her eyes wide when asked whether she was a fan of Bieber’s.
"I kind of like him because he’s cute," Moani said, adding, "I wish he would be alive in 10,000 months."
Deana Espaniola, 17, prepared for the concert by listening to all of Bieber’s songs and brought three cameras in case any malfunctioned. She also followed Bieber’s tweets throughout the day.
"Hawaii is just too nice. Only problem I had so far is got nailed by a wave body boarding … and that is not a problem," Bieber wrote, as well as, "Like I said … I really really like it here."
Espaniola said she’s seen several concerts in Honolulu, including Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera and Chris Brown, but none was as energetic before the show as Bieber’s.
While standing in line for memorabilia, she said she waited 10 hours in line in July, starting at midnight, to buy tickets. She bought tickets for her friend and as a birthday present for her niece Jazlyn Espaniola.
Jazlyn, 13, was excited for her first concert and said she wept when her cousin phoned her and told her she got tickets.
