Assailant sought in Kalihi stabbing

Police continued to search for a man in his 20s wanted for stabbing and critically injuring a 21-year-old Kalihi man early yesterday morning at Kalihi Valley Homes.

Police have classified the case as attempted second-degree murder.

Police said the victim’s artery was severed and that he was taken by ambulance to the Queen’s Medical Center in extremely critical condition. Police reported yesterday afternoon that the artery had been repaired.

Witnesses heard screams coming from a unit at Kalihi Valley Homes on Kalena Drive and called police at 2:01 a.m. yesterday.

Police and paramedics found the 21-year-old man with a stab wound.

The assailant was seen leaving the area.

Kaneohe Marine arrested in attack

Police arrested a 21-year-old Kaneohe Marine on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder for allegedly stabbing a 27-year-old fellow Marine in Kailua early yesterday morning.

Police said the younger man allegedly stabbed the older man with a knife at 2:56 a.m. following an argument at Aikahi Shopping Center.

The 27-year-old man was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition with stab wounds, police said.

Marine spokesman Maj. Alan Crouch said the 27-year-old has been upgraded to stable condition.

Both Marines are lance corporals stationed at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. The suspect serves in the infantry with Headquarters Company for the 3rd Marine Regiment.

Man charged with attempted murder

Police charged a 27-year-old Kalihi man in connection with the stabbing of a 22-year-old woman in Kalihi following an argument over kitchen items.

Rowan Sam is being held on $50,000 bail after being charged with second-degree attempted murder, police said.

The stabbing happened at 3:25 a.m. Saturday.

Police said the man followed a 22-year-old woman into her room after the kitchen quarrel and stabbed her.

Family members intervened and detained the man until police arrived.

2 hurt when truck plunges down gulch

A pickup truck carrying two women went off Mamalahoa Highway and down a 50-foot cliff on the Big Island yesterday morning.

Fire officials, who received the emergency call at 9:18 a.m., said the women were hurt when the northbound truck went down Kaawalii Gulch in Laupahoehoe.

A tree stopped the vehicle from plunging to the bottom of the gulch. Fire rescue workers took the women out of the truck and brought them up, officials said.

The women were taken in serious but stable condition to North Hawaii Community Hospital.
