Kauai police investigate 3 Sunday burglaries

Kauai police are investigating three burglaries that occurred in Kapaa Sunday morning.

One happened between 3 and 4 a.m. at the Best Western Plantation Hale. Police said one of five women who staying in a unit saw a man running toward the unit’s rear screen door. Police said the woman discovered that some of their belongings were missing, including cash.

The burglar was described as having a thin build and long, curly hair.

Between 3:44 a.m. and 3:50 a.m., someone apparently rammed the front door of Kauai Marine and Mower with a pickup truck and stole two generators.

A third burglary occurred in a ground-floor room at Kauai Sands Hotel. Police said a guest from Germany awoke about 4:30 a.m. and discovered that her bag was missing.

Police said some of the stolen items, including a handbag and a camera bag, were found between the Plantation Hale and Kauai Sands Hotel.

No injuries were reported.

“It is suspicious that all three incidents occurred at roughly the same time period, but there is no confirmation of any connection between them,” said Kauai County spokeswoman Mary Daubert.

Anyone with information on the burglaries are asked to call police dispatch at 241-1711 or CrimeStoppers at 241-1887.
