Ward Center stores join forces

Susan G. Komen for the Cure celebrated its 16th year in Hawaii with the Komen Hawaii Race for the Cure held Sunday. To commemorate the event and Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Ward Center merchants are "In the Pink," offering customers anything from trendy pink — the color of the cause — fashions, pink edible treats, and pink ribbons made by Komen Hawaii volunteers.

For select pink purchases, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to help support local programs in the fight against breast cancer. The remaining money supports the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program, which funds cancer research and educational and scientific programs around the world.

Some of the merchants offering items are:

» Island Slipper Store: Donating $5 from each sale of pink floral Komen slippers.

» Executive Chef/Bath & Butler: Donating a portion of sales from official logo items.

» MisFortune: Donating a portion of sales of scarves ($15 to $18), jewelry ($12 to $15), and the Melie Bianco Bow and Rosette Kiss Lock Clutch ($57).

» Sedona: Offering pink heart T-shirts designed locally by Kisa Kosmos ($33) and a camisole ($22), with a portion of proceeds going to the Hawaii Komen affiliate.

» Big City Diner: Donating 50 cents of each guava sorbet purchased in October to breast cancer research.
